TaxIntellilytics Stories
What this is
TaxIntellilytics Stories is an independent publication that explains taxation through data: evidence, story, visualisation and context, in that order. The initial focus is Uganda, built on Kaijamahe Walter Hillary's work turning URA's own published figures into a verified, reproducible dataset and a public data explorer.
What it investigates
How a tax system actually behaves over time — what is collected, from whom, how compliance and enforcement change, and how the administration itself has modernised — using primary data rather than press releases.
Why tax data matters
Tax revenue funds public services and is one of the clearest records a government keeps of its own economy. Reading it carefully — and showing the reader exactly how — is a form of public accountability.
How stories are produced
Every figure is computed from source data through a documented, re-runnable pipeline (see Methodology) rather than typed in by hand.
What it does not claim to do
It is not a government publication, an accounting or tax-advisory service, or a source of personalised financial or legal advice. It is a small, independent effort — not yet a newsroom with a large staff — and it says so plainly rather than implying otherwise.
